Managing public-private sector innovations in the Western Cape
Cape Town is a port city on South Africa’s southwest coast, with over 4,6 citizens living in the city. Cape Town is South Africa’s second largest municipal economy, second most important contributor to national employment. Cape Town’s economic landscape is growing fast.
The Challenge
Rebel was appointed by WESGRO, a Cape Town tourism, trade and investment agency, to identify possible and effective institutional models for managing public-private sector innovations in the Western Cape.
The Approach
The basis of this study were two specific case studies of existing innovations developed by the WCG with private and academic partners – JUMP and I-CAN. The study required an analysis of what institutional model might work best for their needs.
Rebel assisted with the development of an institutional model for the Jump Project and an institutional model for the I-CAN Project.
As a next course of action Rebel made recommendations and presented the findings for an overall institutional architecture to manage and commercialize innovation in the Western Cape.
