Transforming Meneba
Challenge
The Meneba area development is easily accessible by car. However, we aim to increase the appeal of walking and cycling in these types of areas as well.
Approach
The Meneba industrial estate in Wormerveer is being transformed into a beautiful residential area on the banks of the Zaan watercourse. Rebel and RHDHV were commissioned by the municipality of Zaanstad and the Amsterdam Transport Region to develop a Mobility Design Brief for the Meneba estate, to be supported by both parties and to be assessed by the developer. The Brief comprises requirements and wishes for the developer to take into account regarding walking, cycling, public transport, shared-use mobility, cars, and logistics. These requirements and wishes also have implications for the municipality and the transport region: to enable satisfaction of the requirements, they will also need to take measures.
For that reason, the Mobility Design Brief encompasses an overview of supra-regional consequences, preconditions, and recommendations for policy adjustments.
In addition to the Mobility Design Brief, we also drew up developer De Vlijt’s response to the Brief, as was agreed upon by all the parties beforehand.
The Meneba mobility concept elaborates all the requirements and wishes in concrete terms and was appended to the amendment of the zoning plan.
Impact
A concrete mobility concept for Meneba that fosters the mobility transition.
