Rebel was appointed by a private operator to prepare a commercial due diligence for the Durban Container Terminal Pier 2.
The challenge
A private operator reached out to Rebel to assist in analysing the Durban Container Terminal Pier 2 (“DCT2”), for which Transnet has announced its intention to privatise. The assessment includes an analysis of the potential volumes which can be attracted by the port as well as the terminal its strategic positioning.
Tha approach
Rebel analyzed the Southern African port market in order to properly understand the drivers behind the regional demand and identify the primary contestable markets within the region. The report included a comprehensive analysis of the competing facilities in the region and the hinterland structure.
A detailed logistic cost model was developed in order to determine to potential container demand for the terminal, whilst also results, a strategic roadmap for the phasing and development of the port was proposed.
