Disappointing results are pressuring the future of Groningen Airport Eelde. However, closing the airport will entail considerable economic damage.

Challenge

Closure of Groningen Airport Eelde may lead to a range of adverse effects. Their probability and scope are, however, uncertain.

The study comprised two components: the immediate financial damage (“cash out”) and the economic value lost upon closure of the airport. Earlier studies and interviews with the airport organisation and with key users have generated a picture of the financial and economic impact.

Rebel has differentiated between the quantifiable effects and effects that can only be expressed in words. Furthermore, we assessed the probability of certain effects arising in the future.
